"A quiet light"

There is a quiet light that shines in every heart. It draws no attention to itself though it is always secretly there. It is what illuminates our minds to see beauty, our desire to seek possibility and our hearts to love life.

Professing to be "world-class" is one of the surest signs that you are not

Professing to be "world-class" is one of the surest signs that you are not. Is it only me who gets their hackles up every time a business, an institution or even a region, declares that they are "world-class"? There is always more than just a whiff of desperation associated with this claim, in my book.

Addicted, but it could be worse: A World Photo Day post

Today is World Photo Day and I'm feeling a strong, physical pull to pick up my camera. In fact, I have just figured out what this general malaise is that I've been feeling for some time now. It's withdrawal symptoms. My camera and I have been apart for too long. I mean in any meaningful way. Sure, I've shot a few snaps, but 'she' and I haven't really communed lately and I miss it in my soul. This comes as a bit of a surprise to me. I knew I 'like' photography, even 'love' photography. But I didn't quite realize that I 'need' photography. Like air, food and water. I'm addicted.

So, if you're looking for me today, try again later. My camera and I have a date. My twelve step program is to walk the twelve steps out my front door, camera in hand!

Black and white and red all over - redux

I hope blushing suits me, 'cuz I'm doing it again

I entered a themed series in the #WalkSTC photo exhibit this year, and one of my photos was awarded the Mayor's Pick! This means that it will hang at St. Catharines City Hall. Pretty cool.

All of my photos were taken at the Niagara Wine Festival in 2016 - at the Grande Parade and in Montebello Park. I called the series "Sharing Special Moments." Quiet moments, private moments, sweet moments, joyous moments - captured on "film."

Thanks to the #WalkSTC organizers for another great opportunity, and to Mahtay Cafe for the space for all of us to hang our work for the month of May.

Pi(e) Day 2016

I won my invitation to Pi(e) Day 2016 in a fundraising raffle for a Syrian refugee family. Truly a win-win! A group of friends, who self-identify as the Asian Food Mob, have been holding Pie Day for several years, traditionally on Pi Day (March 14 or 3.14). These ladies (and a few gents) are seriously committed foodies, with strong design and organizational skills, and a wonderful aesthetic. I'd like to say I fit right in - well, except for the not being Asian part!
